At Tygervalley Montessori we believe young learners should engage in a variety of movement activities daily. We do not believe in short weekly sessions, which have unfortunately become commonplace. Various activities are set up daily that incorporate the skills of locomotion (running, jumping, crawling), stability (balance) and manipulation (ball skills, eye-hand and eye-foot coordination).
Movement provides children with a concrete means with which to act in, interact with, and react to the world. It is also the way young learners expand their way of seeing themselves and their surroundings.
Listen and move. Play and grow. This is Kindermusik, the most trusted music and movement program for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and young children.
The music program is also presented by the teachers at our school. We sing daily, experiment with instruments, dance, learn to read music and practice auditory skills. Music is a fun activity enjoyed by all learners.
Dance mouse is an optional extra which takes place during school hours
Dance mouse is a comprehensive, dance related syllabus currently being introduced in most Pre-Primary and Primary Schools in South Africa through a franchise opportunity. Our curriculum gives young children the opportunity to be introduced to approximately six different dance forms per year.
The syllabus teaches children the following techniques: Hip Hop, Breakdance, Latin American Basics, Freestyle, Rock and Roll, Gymnastic Basics , Silk Fabric training, Body Conditioning, Pilates techniques, Ballet and Modern basics. The aim envelops the technical training of a child’s body in order to safely strengthen, stretch and mobilize the body through exercise and dance. The rewards to the child being co-ordination and dance balanced skills. Once strength is accomplished, any form of dance or any other physically challenging activity is easy to attain.
